News on Activities at the Downtown Y

As health measures are gradually being lifted, life is slowly returning to “normal” in downtown Montréal. As such, we wanted to take this opportunity to give you a bit of news on activities at the Downtown Y. Many people are hoping for sports and fitness activities to start up again. However, for now, these activities will not resume, but we hope to be able to bring them back soon.

The Downtown YMCA is reinventing itself

To ensure the Downtown Y’s future, we need to reinvent ourselves. For this reason, we are currently working on a redevelopment project. Rest assured, we are doing everything so that this project will see the light of day as quickly as possible.

Our search for a partner continues

In March 2021, we announced that we were actively looking for a partner to support us in managing our building. Today, this search is ongoing and we are exploring various partnership scenarios.

The Y’s ongoing impact in downtown Montréal

Thanks to program-specific funding, we continue to offer youth and community programming, both in-person and online, to the downtown community, specifically:

  • Social inclusion and reintegration services for offenders and people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness
  • A TeenZone for 12- to 17-year-olds with sports, recreational, and leadership activities, homework help, and a program geared to students suspended from school
  • Activities for kids between 6 and 12 years of age
  • Other early childhood development activities

In-classroom languages courses are back

The YMCA International Language School also continues to offer its courses, with the option of in-class learning back since the end of February. We offer a wide range of in-person or online language courses in nine languages for youth and adults. Learn more >>

Every day, we strive to have a positive impact in the lives of our participants, and we hope to be able to do so for years to come. As soon as any new actions are undertaken, we will inform you. Until then, make sure to check your inbox and follow the Downtown YMCA’s Facebook page.
