Montréal, November 16, 2015 – The YMCAs of Québec are pleased to announce the launch of yet another initiative with Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry, a Pointe-de-l’Île School Board secondary school. This project brings together 12 volunteer students to manage a cooperative café, the Entre-Deux.
The young volunteers will be in charge of their own committees (staffing, ordering, marketing, finance, etc.) under the guidance of a facilitator from the YMCAs of Québec. With the goal of promoting healthy life habits, the café will offer a variety of nutritious snacks and drinks to all of the school’s 2,300 students.
“The cooperative café is a project that fosters responsibility, creativity, team spirit and leadership in its participants. Plus, the Entre-Deux will eventually become a place where social, community, civic and cultural projects and activities come together,” said Étienne Pagé, Director of the School Perseverance Sector of the YMCAs of Québec.
The café’s launch will also be an opportunity to recognize the contribution of the project’s many partners: École secondaire Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry and the Commission scolaire Pointe-de-l’Île, Desjardins – Caisse du Centre-est de la métropole (Saint-Léonard), Fondation de la Pointe-de-l’Île, Ensemble pour un Saint-Léonard en forme and Collective jeunesse Saint-Léonard.
