The YMCA International Language School is currently seeking English Teachers.

Overview of the position

Under the supervision of the Pedagogical Advisor of the English Language Department, the teacher is responsible for following the YMCA course syllabus and creating relevant, fun and interesting lessons which will aid students to acquire the language. The candidate will also be required to create mid-term and administer final exams which will reflect and evaluate what was taught in the class. He or she will be expected to execute simple administrative tasks correctly and on time. He or she may also be asked to collaborate with other teachers in the department.

Requirements

    • Have a car with a valid driver’s licence
    • English as a native language
    • Have teaching experience preferably in Canada
    • Have a University degree in Teaching English as a Second Language [TESL]; or
    • Have a related degree in EDUCATION with an accredited ESL Certificate
    • Be dynamic, patient and motivated
    • Be a team player
    • Be flexible and professional
    • Have computer skills and be at ease with word
    • Be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or have appropriate working papers

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Prepare and teach grammar classes and conversation activities
    • Create mid-term and administer final exams for courses taught
    • Correct students’ homework and exams
    • Evaluate students in terms of writing and speaking
    • Fill-out written attestations for each student in class
    • Adhere to and respect YMCA Language school’s policies and procedures
    • Complete administrative tasks correctly and on time
    • Evaluate entering students and place them in the appropriate class level
    • Teach both ‘at-the-Y’ & ‘in-company’ classes

Location: YMCA International Language School
Status: Part-time
Starting Salary: $18 an hour
* ($20 – private lessons – ‘at-the-Y’) ($25 – private lessons – ‘in-companies’)
Work schedule: Variable: Monday to Friday evenings. Saturday afternoons
