The French Department offers six levels of oral and written communication, for “real” beginners to advanced speakers, with daytime classes (10 to 25 hours per week) or evening classes (3 to 6 hours per week) so you can learn or perfect your French. If you would like to polish your skills in a particular field, enriched courses are offered in the afternoon and specialized courses in the evening.

French

Intensive Program

Description

Learn French in an intensive program, in day classes, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This program is a combination of Integrated Skills program offered in the morning, and one of five Enriched Courses offered in the afternoon:
- Conversation or
- Preparation for the Test de français international (TFI) or
- Written French or
- Business French or
- Creative Speak

The courses are taught in the classroom and the laboratory. A free YMCA fitness centre membership is offered to students for the duration of the session.

Integrated Skills Program (Conversation and grammar)

Description

The Integrated Skills program consists of six levels. Learning is based on the four language skills: you will expand your knowledge of French by working on grammar through oral and written exercises involving listening and reading. Each level also includes a section focusing on pronunciation. Students work in the classroom and the laboratory.

A free YMCA fitness centre membership is offered to students for the duration of the session.

Conversation

Description

Oral expression is a fundamental part of learning a new language, and contextualization is essential to mastering this skill. Description

If your goal is to take the TFI (Test de français international), this course is for you! It will help you prepare adequately for the official test through targeted grammatical exercises and sample questions for the two skills evaluated: oral comprehension and written comprehension. This new course was designed to provide students with an opportunity to further enrich their French language learning experience by building on what they have learned in the previous French levels.
