Placement Tests

All students must pass a placement test before they can register for a course.

All students who have completed and passed a particular level or course and who wish to register in another level or course can do so without passing a placement test as long as it is done within 6 months of finishing the previous course.

Tests are free every Wednesday. The following are the times for placement testing for the different languages that we teach:

French and English :
12:30 – 6pm
Spanish : 1pm – 6pm
Italian : 4:30 – 6pm
Portuguese : 4:45 – 5:45pm

There is a $20 charge for testing at all other times.

* Our classes are made up of small groups of 6 to 15 students.

* Courses and prices are subject to change without notice.

* Special Offer! Registration includes a free one-day pass to the Sports Centre upon request.

Introduction to Spanish Register	Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to noon 2 hours/week 7 weeks (Total: 14 hours) $135 + taxes Textbooks included	This course is aimed at students who have never studied Spanish. It covers basic vocabulary and phonetics and introduces a number of fundamental concepts of Spanish.

Conversation Course Register	2 levels: Intermediate and advanced Advanced Prerequisite: Level 5 Monday 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Intermediate Prerequisite: Level 3 Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 2 hours/week 6 weeks (Total: 12 hours) $100 + taxes	You apply what you have learned in order to acquire greater fluency and spontaneity in conversing on a variety of topics. Spanish for Nifty-Fifty Register	Level 1 Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to noon Length and cost: 4 hours/week 7 weeks (Total: 28 hours) $195 + taxes Level 2: Tusday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to noon Length and cost: 4 hours/week 7 weeks (Total: 28 hours) $195 + taxes	Teachers will lead discussions and other activities to help students better understand certain aspects of the Hispano-American culture. The first meetings will take place at the YMCA. Subsequent meetings will alternate between the YMCA and other locations depending on the chosen activity. Please note: it will be the students’ responsibility to pay any charges related to an activity outside the YMCA.
