The English department offers a variety of courses to learn and perfect your English. With our different course formats, our schedules and our approach, you're guaranteed to reach your goals quickly and effectively.

To learn English or improve your skills, we have eight levels of courses in oral and written communication, from beginner to advanced, day (10 to 25 hours per week) or evening (three to six hours per week). If you wish to work on a specific skill or area, we offer specialized courses in the afternoon or evening.

Intensive Program (Day)

Description

Learn English in an intensive Day Course, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This program is a combination of the Semi-Intensive Program offered in the morning and one of the following eight Enriched Courses offered in the afternoon: 

“Conversation” or
“Pronunciation” or
“TOEFL iBT” or
“Business English” or
“Creative Speak” or
“English @ Work” or
“Reading and Writing Made Easy”.

The courses are taught in the classroom and the laboratory. A free YMCA fitness centre membership is offered to students for the duration of the session.

Semi-Intensive Program (Conversation and Grammar) (Day)

Description

The Semi-Intensive Program consists of eight levels, from beginner to advanced. These courses enable students to progressively acquire grammatical concepts and new vocabulary in order to develop the four English-language communications skills: oral and written comprehension, oral and written expression. Much time is devoted to putting oral skills into use through communication and other activities. The lab periods are reserved primarily for listening and pronunciation activities.

A free YMCA fitness centre membership is offered to students for the duration of the session.

This course is intended for intermediate students who already have a solid base of English and prefer a fun, non-traditional approach to learning. The course focuses on improving fluency and all language skills. By creating and developing a project with a team, students can put their advanced-level skills to work.

Description

The conversation course consists of 8 levels. This course focuses on the sounds of English, including the vowels in standard North American English and the consonants that give students the most difficulty. Preparation for TOEFL iBT (Internet-based test) (Day) Prerequisite :
Level Intermediate 3

Description

This course aims to develop the four language skills—reading, writing, oral expression and oral understanding—to prepare students for the TOEFL iBT.

We help students develop strategies for each skill and put them into practice in mini-tests or regular laboratory tests based on the new test available on the Internet.

The complete course is 12 weeks (three sessions of 4 consecutive weeks each). You can sign up for one, two, or three sessions depending on your skill level.

The TOEFL iBT test is also intended for students who are non-native speakers of English and who wish to study at a Canadian or American university. Please visit the TOEFL website for more information.
